1:50th Scale John Deere 843K Wheeled Feller Buncher
Presented here is the 1:50th scale John Deere 843K wheeled feller buncher from Ertl. This is an update to the previously released 843J with a slightly different shaped body and updated graphics.

The model has an appearance of a wheeled loader with front mounted arms connected to the all plastic cutting head which features a silver rotating saw disk and pivoting grapple arms. The large silver headed rivets on the linkages don't look particularly good, but can be painted with satin black paint to dull down their appearance. The engine door panels have some crisp detailing including silver painted handles which is another change over the gold painted handles of the 843J. |
The cab features side window screening with painted protection bars visible on the front windscreen. Integrated roof mounted work lights have been added which have a mesh pattern printed over the lenses which is a nice touch. As with the 843J, the cab tilts to the side to reveal the internal components which are hardly visible and I still do not see the added benefit to the model to add the tilting cab.
Side by side, it is possible to see the slightly different contours of the rear engine housing and the updated graphics package (843J on the left, 843K on the right). Also noticable on the image below are the black painted rivets on the 843J which, in my opinion, make the model look better. It is good to see John Deere update the models to represent the latest changes on the full sized machines.
