John Deere 824K Log Loader
Presented here is the John Deere 824K log loader in 1:50th scale from ERTL. The model is an update to their previously released 824J and is from their standard model range, having no opening compartments or finer detailing now found on Ertl's "High Detail" model series.
The most noticable difference on the model is the enlarged rear end, featuring a newly cast engine compartment and counterweight with raised edges and cast grill detailing on the side panels. There are also grey guards covering the rear tyres which are not present on the "J" version.

The articulated chassis has a reasonable degree of steering and plastic ladders have been added on both sides leading up to the cab which has a replicated interior. The tyres have a well defined tread pattern and are fitted to plastic wheel hubs which are freely rotating.

As with the 824J, the model is supplied with two plastic logs which do not look at all realistic and have not been pictured. The loader arms feature Z-bar linkage to the functional log grapple which can be opened / closed to grip one of the two supplied plastic logs. |
The model does not feature any opening compartments or fine detailing but is a good solid model at a very reasonable price and looks good alongside the other Deere models. It is pictured below alongside the older 824J for size comparison.
