Caterpillar D10 Pusher

Caterpillar D10 Pusher

The Caterpillar D10 pusher in 1:48th scale is manufactured by CCM and is part of a new series of highly detailed historic Caterpillar die-cast models. The model shares a number of components with the standard version of the D10 and is configured to be used to assist in the loading of motor scrapers.

The open ROPs with canopy allows all the details within the operators station to be seen, including the offset driver's seat and the hand control levers. Even the foot controls and foot rests are replicated along with the central console with printed dials. As with the enclosed cab version, a fire extinguisher is located on the side of the ROPs frame and accurately scaled metal grab rails are fitted.

The main frame casting has integrated foot platforms allowing easy access for the operator, complete with textured surfaces for that little extra realism. The open engine compartment features a replicated V12 diesel engine with photo-etched upper side grills and large radiator hidden behind the photo-etched front grill, topped by the dominant single exhaust stack rising from the bonnet.

Some of the finer details on the model include the integrated work lights with glass lenses on the front and rear corners of the upper deck along with painted lenses on the front of the engine compartment.

The main lift cylinders are mounted to the front frame of the engine bay with flexible hydraulic lines dissapearing into the engine bay.

The rear of the model features a push block with integrated tow bar which is mounted to the same connections used to connect the ripper of the standard version. The track frames pivot and the individually linked metal track pads rotate smoothly with the track tensioning system giving a very realistic look to the hang of the tracks from the elevated drive sprockets.

Moving to the front of the model, the blade arms are mounted directly to the main chassis frame, a feature of the full sized machine to transfer the power of the tractor to the scraper more efficiently. The blade is narrow to fit within the width of the cut of the scraper that it pushes and the additional plating in the centre to prevent wear damage when the blade makes contact with the scraper has been replicated, complete with a detailed cutting edge.

The model is very well packaged in a two piece polystyrene carton inserted into an opening, quality cardboard box with the distinctive Caterpillar markings. The model looks great alongside the standard version of the D10 and both are great additions to the growing 1:48th scale Caterpillar line from Classic Construction Models.
