Caterpillar 854K Wheeled Dozer

Presented here is the 1:50th scale 854K wheel dozer from Norscot. This is an update to the previously released 854G and is a much more realistic and detailed model with a new cast body and coal blade.

The most striking difference is the large coal blade at the front which is a nice addition to the model and gives the 854K a more interesting appearance. The large hydraulics allow the blade to be positioned as required and the tip cylinders are functional giving a good amount to movement.

The cab has a replicated interior which is visible through the glazed windows with an all-round walkway, complete with accurately scaled plastic safety railings which are much better and more realistic than the railings fitted to the 854G. Even though the railings are plastic, the accurate scale and black finish make them look very good.

Access to the cab is via the access steps integrated into the rear wheel arches which have an anti-slip texture on each step surface which extends across the main walking area of the deck. The rear facing work lights on both sides of the bonnet have painted lenses and the engine sides have body coloured textured cooling grill panels.

The articulated chassis has a good degree of steering movement and the large tyres look to be the same design as the 854G with a chevron style tread pattern. The rear axle pivots to simulate the suspension ability of the full sized machine and all the wheels rotate freely.

This is a very good update and the addition of the different style blade makes the model stand out even more which is a welcome surprise considering Norscot could have used the same blade from the 854G version. The paint finish is very good with accurate placement of the "Power Edge" markings.
