Caterpillar 666 Scraper "McCoy Version"
Presented here is the 1:48th scale McCoy version of the Caterpillar 666 scraper from Classic Construction Models. Produced in a strictly limited run of 500 pieces, the level of detail is fantastic throughout and while we have been waiting a long time since it was originally announced, the wait is certainly worthwhile.
The build quality of the model reviewed here is very good with a high quality paint finish throughout and crisp printing of the Caterpillar and McCoy logos and details. The tractor has a nicely replicated operator's station with all the hand and foot controls fitted. The McCoy version of the model has a green painted ROPs canopy with four lifting hooks on the corners.

One nice touch on the model is the moving steering wheel which is linked to the steering bar on the front wheels which have a limited amount of movement. Other details on the tractor include access steps on both sides with accurately scaled grab rails with a glazed front windshield with integrated grab handles. |

The engine bay has been captured well with the Caterpiller block prominently displayed with all the cooling, filtering and exhaust components added.

The front photo-etched grill is painted black on the McCoy version and hides the radiator assembly, complete with cooling fan detailing with the large exhaust stack rising from the bonnet. |
The rear engine compartment is equally well detailed and also sports a black finished photo-etched grill with grab handles and access steps cast into the structure. Diamond textured plates have been added on the rear to give a little extra realism with the large rubber tyres having a crisply moulded authentic tread pattern with incredibly detailed wheel hubs which show all the fixing bolts.

The neck of the scraper box has stiff hydraulics which stay in position with a central piston raising the front gate, complete with both fixed and flexible hydraulic piping which connects to the tractor.

The linkage with the tractor allows some tilting movement in both side-to-side and front to back motion. |
The ejector plate runs along the ridges in the sides of the bowl and is powered by two hydraulic pistons. When extended, more engine and transmission detail is revealed as well as the structural frame. The bowl on the McCoy version has extended side panels to hold a greater capacity of material, whilst the rear frame has a photo-etched screen.
This is another great addition to the growing range of 1:48th scale historic replicas from Classic Construction models. The model is very securely packed in a sturdy, quality cardboard box with two section polystyrene inner and comes complete with a printed card that provides some details on the full sized machine along with the serial number of the model and a signature.
