Bomag BMP8500 Compactor

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Bomag BMP8500 compactor from Kaster. Kaster have produced a number of different models for the Fayat Group and their quality and detail slowly improves with each release. With the addition of the BMP8500, despite is diminutive size, the model is packed with fine details. The articulating chassis is hydraulically powered and has a reasonable range of movement, with a photo-etched main grille highlighting the Bomag name.

The cover is hinged and tilts forward to reveal the interior components which have been authentically modelled and include two tanks (One white and one black) which both have highlighted filler caps. While the hinges are quite large, they function well and allow all the interior details to be clearly seen, greatly adding to the level of realism of the model.

The compactor wheels are intricately cast with rectangular shaped pads integrated into the surface. The model is depicted with the inclusion of extension rims which cannot be removed but are a good addition on the model, topped with tiny metal handrails on the inside, perfectly matching the full sized machine.

The paint finish is excellent with the casting details visible throughout. The printing of the Bomag name and designations are surprisingly crisp considering their small size. While the model is rather expensive considering the small dimensions, the amount of detail found on the model shows that a lot of work has gone into it's production. The central integrating lifting bracked can be used to lift the compactor, as pictured below being handled by the Liebherr R936C.
