Bomag BM2000/60 Cold PlanerPresented here is the 1:50th scale Bomag BM2000/60 cold planer which has been produced by Kaster. The model is surprisingly detailed and a vast improvement over some of the earlier models released by Kaster, which shows that they are upping their game. The BM2000/60 is the flagship model in the range, boasting a 600hp Deutz TCD2015 8 cylinder engine and a 2 metre cutting width with 320mm cutting depth. The model has captured the aesthetic looks of the machine very well, with a finely detailed rotating cutter drum aligned with shaped cutting teeth at the heart of the chassis. Unfortunately, this does not have any height adjustment. The internal rubber belt has been added and has authentic ridges moulded into the surface. The main conveyor belt is also made of pliable rubber with a raised pattern moulded into the surface. The model can be displayed in a transport configuration which is achieved by lowering the canopy and folding the main conveyor housing which has small hydraulics connected to the linkage which allows the housing to fold under and clip into place.
The access steps found on both sides of the body are made from metal and are fairly well scaled. The lower section has a simulated hinge and the platforms have a textured anti-slip surface. The controls are duplicated on each side of the full length driver's station which features a pair of seats. The interior is fairly basic with a protective canopy which features slide out side extensions and a front and rear screen, topped with an amber safety beacon. Each of the four tracked legs features a pivoting track frame with individually linked rotating tracks that have a flat surface with inset fixing details. The main body has plenty of panel and door features with a rugged rear grille panel and side fitting safety boards that have a red and white chevron pattern. The paint finish is very good and the printing is crisp and clear. |
