Bomag BC1172 RB Trash Compactor
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Bomag BC1172 RB compactor from Kaster. A number of the Bomag models are hit and miss, with some having good detailing and metal construction while others are poor with mainly plastic construction and bad assembly. The latest release is the BC1172RB trash compactor and this is a very heavy model with good detailing showing that both Bomag and Kaster are raising their game.
The large blade is mounted to the chassis and pivots up and down and while the range of movement is not ideal, it is enough with the single hydraulic cylinder, complete with flexible hosing, stiff enough to position the blade as required. The top section of the blade is ridged to simulate the open grill pattern found on the full sized machine and this does look acceptable whilst the grey highlighted cutting blade has bolt fixing details cast into the surface.

The cab, complete with rugged safety ROPS structure looks very good with air conditioning unit located on the roof and large work lights all around the edge, complete with silver painted lenses.

Rear view mirrors have been added to both sides of the cab frame with an amber beacon also present on the roof whilst a plastic windscreen wiper has been added to the front window. The cab interior has been modelled and is visible within. |
The large compacting wheels have an authentic toothed appearance with cleaning bars extending from the articulating chassis whilst access walkways have been fitted to both sides of the model, complete with slightly over scaled safety rails and access grab rails.
The rear body panels have grills cast into the surface along with black lines along the upper surface and silver painted door handles and catches for added realism. Safety labels are printed on the model for a little extra detail and the model has a reasonable paint finish throughout. When this model was first released, I was not sure about the quality but I have to admit this is a reasonable model with some nice detailing. I hope this trend continues with the next release in the Fayat Group range.
