Bell 872D Motor Grader

Bell 872D motor grader

Presented here is the Bell 872D motor grader in 1:50th scale from ERTL. The model is based on the John Deere version, as are the real machines, with Bell markings added in place of the Deere markings. The model is from the "High Detail"series and feature a number of opening compartments and added detailing.

The front of the model features a detailed casting of the steering and suspension mechanism with a very limited degree of steering movement possible.

The articulating frame is functional but also limited in the amount of steering angle that can be achieved.

The rubber tyres have a moulded tread pattern and plastic hubs and all wheels are freely rotating with the rear wheels fitted to a suspension frame offering a little oscillating movement to simulate the suspension found on the full sized machine.

Being a high detail model, there is a plastic moulding of the engine block situated behind the 4 opening engine doors, 2 on each side of the model.

The model features functioning ripper at the rear which can be raised and lowered. The blade can be rotated and also raised/lowered. The cab interior has been modelled with centrally located control console with steering wheel and driver's seat all visble through the large windows. The hand rails are a little overscaled and have rear view mirrors attached

The detail on this model is good considering the reccomended retail price and is a great addition to the Bell promotional model series. As with the Deere version, the main disapointing aspect is the use of large silver rivets joining all the moving parts which detracts from an otherwise good model.
