Bauma 2007

I have just returned from a trip to Munich for the Bauma 2007 trade fair. This was my third visit to the event and this year was the largest ever with over 50 new models announced.

The Liebherr stand had over 10 new models available to purchase, including the long awaited LR634 tracked loader and the LRB255 piling rig. On display over the shop was the prototype 1:50th scale 630 HC-S tower crane which looks very impressive and is due for release early next year. There were several rumours of even more new models for 2007 with the LTR1100 likely to appear. The L586 wheel loader will be released later in the year.

The Nagel stand had two more limited edition models in their company livery, The Liebherr R924 compact and the Bell B40D articulated dumper. The models go well with the two models released three years ago and I hope they will commission two models every Bauma.

There were four new models displayed at the Neuson / Kramer stand, including the new six ton swivel skip dumper and the telescopic loader. The Kramer telehandler prototype model was on display and is a 1:32nd scale model with the likelyhood that a Claas version will also appear. All four models have been made by Universal Hobbies.

The next stop was the Komatsu stand where the five new 1:50th scale Universal Hobbies models were displayed. Unfortunately, none were available to purchase as the stock did not arrive.

The Volvo shop had several new models for sale, but the price for the models was very high. The new EC210C was available in a blue and grey colour scheme to match the previously released limited edition wheel loader in the same colours. There was also the new EW180C wheeled excavator and the L350F wheeled loader. There are two A40E models being made this year, with one being a cosmetic update to the previous model and a completely new version of the A40E will appear later in the year.

Case 590

The Case stand had two new models to purchase, the fourth model in the Poclain Heritage Collection is the TY45 with crane boom in 1:50th scale from Conrad. The second new model is the Case 590SR2 backhoe loader in the black and chrome colour scheme. This model is limited to only 250 pieces and is supplied mounted to a diorama.

Another version will appear in the next couple of weeks of the model on its own, presented in a specially printed box.

The JCB shop had the new JS220 long reach model on sale, which was the only new 1:50th scale model. Prototypes of the new 456 wheel loader model, in both ZX and wastemaster versions, were on display until the Wastemaster version went missing. The detail is very good and the ZX is supplied with a set of work tools.

The Bomag shop received the new MPH125 soil stabiliser model mid way through the show and it was very reasonably priced at 27 Euro.

The model is presented in the usual Bomag packaging and has been manufactured by Kaster in 1:50th scale.

Vogelle Super 800

The Wirtgen stand had a number of models available from the group including three new paver models in 1:50th scale.

The smallest model is the Vogelle Super 800 tracked paver, with the Super 1900 and Super 2100 tracked pavers also available in 1:50th scale from NZG.

One of the surprises of the show was a 1:50th scale model of the Soilmec SR70, complete with linked metal tracks on an extending undercarriage, working winch and a bucket drill head.

This is the first new model for quite a while from Soilmec and there are rumours that another model will follow next year.

The Bauer shop had what I consider the best model available at the show in the form of the 1:50th scale BG40 drilling rig with continuous flight auger.

Brami have learnt many lessons from the original BG24 and the new model is supperb. It is presented in the box in it's transport mode with the various sections seperated. It takes a little time to build up the model and the results are incredible.

Most of the parts are metal, including the boom and drill head and the extending undercarriage features linked metal tracks.
