1:50th Scale Bauer BG40 Carrier with BC40 Trench Cutter Presented here is the 1:50th scale Bauer BG40 carrier with BC40 trench cutter from Bymo. The model is an excellent replica with nicely detailed features throughout although there is a small difference compared to the original Bauer BG40 carrier with drilling rig. On the original version, there are flexible hydraulic hoses fitted from the housing to the main mast hydraulic cylinders which are not present on this version. The undercarriage features extending track frames which have good cast detailing with access steps and structural detailing present. The individually linked track pads look realistic and rotate smoothly.
The cab is highly detailed inside and out with the computer screen visible within, as are all the controls whilst the exterior has grab handles, rear view mirrors and a folding walkway along the side of the cab with roof mounted work lights and black highlighted window seals for added effect.
Out of the box, the model is in a number of parts and can be realistically positioned on the back of a low loader in a transport configuration. There are detailed instructions to assemble the model which takes about 30-40 minutes. A key is provided which is inserted into the hole on the side of the model to operate the main winch which raises / lowers the cutter while the two auxiliary winches are also functional but there is no resistance.
The extra detailing found on the model helps to accentuate the realism further with photo-etched engine panels, textured walkways, hydraulic pipework and intricate grill detailing cast into the sides. The removable counterweight at the rear which has added weight compared to the first version of the model is a nice touch, as are the small amber beacons.
This is a great addition to the Bauer foundation range and demonstrates the different equipment that can be used with the BG40 carrier. The paint finish is excellent with crisp printing of the Bauer name. The model has been produced in China rather than Bymo's production facilities in Bosnia and this explains the great levels of fine detailing throughout.
