1:50th Scale Bauer BG40 Carrier with BC40 Trench Cutter

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Bauer BG40 carrier with BC40 trench cutter from Bymo. The model is an excellent replica with nicely detailed features throughout although there is a small difference compared to the original Bauer BG40 carrier with drilling rig. On the original version, there are flexible hydraulic hoses fitted from the housing to the main mast hydraulic cylinders which are not present on this version.

The undercarriage features extending track frames which have good cast detailing with access steps and structural detailing present. The individually linked track pads look realistic and rotate smoothly.

The cab is highly detailed inside and out with the computer screen visible within, as are all the controls whilst the exterior has grab handles, rear view mirrors and a folding walkway along the side of the cab with roof mounted work lights and black highlighted window seals for added effect.

The mast is diecast and can be dismantled like the real machine. A footing section is suppled which inserts into the bottom of the mast and has the hydraulic piping from the engine housing connected and this is where the main mud hose and control cables connect once the cutter has been attached to the sledge.

The top of the mast is adjustable like the real machine and has a different head design than the drill version of the model, featuring two shieves and a tie-off point.

The hoses fit as pictured above and the main winch is connected to the sledge, allowing it to traverse along the mast. The cutter is then secured to the sledge by passing the ropes over the pulleys and securing them to the base of the mast. Caution is needed to keep both ropes the same length.

The hydraulic cylinders are finely detailed and are nice and stiff, allowing the mast to remain in position.

The sledge has wheels mounted to the sides with pulleys fitted, allowing the cutter to be connected. The instruction sheet provided with the model gives clear details on how the model is assembled and both the hose and control cable are long, requiring the collector to trim them to size as required.

Out of the box, the model is in a number of parts and can be realistically positioned on the back of a low loader in a transport configuration. There are detailed instructions to assemble the model which takes about 30-40 minutes. A key is provided which is inserted into the hole on the side of the model to operate the main winch which raises / lowers the cutter while the two auxiliary winches are also functional but there is no resistance.

The extra detailing found on the model helps to accentuate the realism further with photo-etched engine panels, textured walkways, hydraulic pipework and intricate grill detailing cast into the sides. The removable counterweight at the rear which has added weight compared to the first version of the model is a nice touch, as are the small amber beacons.

The BC40 trench cutter has been captured very well with all the details of the full sized tool accurately captured, from the structural framework to the internal control housings, mud pump and hoses to the extremely detailed cutter wheels that have intricate tooth detailing.

The inclination flaps have been simulated on the front and side surfaces with support panels also added, complete with indented bolt fixing details.

This is a great addition to the Bauer foundation range and demonstrates the different equipment that can be used with the BG40 carrier. The paint finish is excellent with crisp printing of the Bauer name. The model has been produced in China rather than Bymo's production facilities in Bosnia and this explains the great levels of fine detailing throughout.
