New 1:50th Scale Bauer BG24H Drilling Rig
This is the new Bauer BG24H Drilling Rig in 1:50th scale from Brami. The model is an excellent replica with nicely detailed features. There is quite a lot of plastic used on the model which is a little dissapointing, but is does help with the stability of the model. The carrier is excellent with individually linked tracks on an extendable undercarriage. The cab is highly detailed and the counterweight and upper bonnet details are authentically produced.

The drill boom is plastic with a plastic kelly rod and plastic auger. Only one of the winches can be operated which is a pity, especially as the cable is just tied off and does not look very good. The top of the boom is adjustable like the real machine and the drill motor slides easily along the boom. The hydraulic cylinders are finely detailed but the fit with the pistons is a little loose and cannot hold up the boom. Another dissapointment is the hydraulic pipe work which looks very untidy as presented out of the box. It needs a little work to tidy up and I am contemplating making some little clips to hold everything together. I have been told that some changes are being made before more models are manufactured so maybe the little niggles mentioned have already been noticed. Standing on a shelf, the model looks great and should be a part of any construction model collection. |
This is the first model commissioned and I was told that Bauer plan to produce one model a year. I certainly look forward to the next release.
