Mercedes Actros MP3 with DOLL Short Timber Transporter Body
and 2-axle Drawbar Trailer in "Hammann" Livery

Doll Fahrzeugbau AG produce specialised trailers in the logging transport and special haulage sectors and the short timber transport solution is an all in one package containing a sub assembly which will fit different brands of truck chassis with a self loading crane and trailer offering the ability to transport logs upto 7 metres in length. Conrad have once again produced a very detailed and functional model of the Doll short timber transporter based on a Mercedes Benz chassis in the decoration of the Hammann transport company, located in southern Germany.

The Palfinger Epsilon M1202 loading crane is another fine piece of engineering, allowing the crane to accurately store in a folded position at the rear of the chassis while unfolding realistically into its loading configuration.

The three section telescopic stick houses the log grapple which is stiff to operate and can hold a couple of logs securely, allowing numerous posing possibilities.

The operator's seat is perched high up for a good view around the truck and is hinged and folds when not in use. lever controls have been added on both sides of the platform which has a small ladder for access and a full 360 degree range of movement. The extending outriggers are plastic with pull out jacks and have 180 degree rotation from storage to working position.

The Actros MP3 cab has been authentically captured with the detailed grill casting with chromed logo prominent across the front. The bomper houses driving and side lights with amber indicators integrated into the ends with silver highlighted access steps which have a textured anti-slip surface.

The roof has a black plastic roof panel with chromed air horns on both sides with a chromed light bar stretching across the front of the cab. Self fit aerials are supplied and need fitting which can prove a little tricky while self fit rear view mirrors need fitting into the holes in the cab frame.

The cab interior has been captured and the intricate printing on the side windows is a very nice touch, coupled with the crisp printing of the red and white stripe artwork and the Mercedes logo. As with all Conrad truck models, the cab is hinged and tilts forward to reveal the modelled engine and transmission moulding beneath.

The bed of the truck has a diamond plate texture with plastic guards fitted above the rear wheels.

The side of the chassis houses a large fuel tank on one side with a storage box on the other, complete with cast handles and protective rails.

The wooden logs are again very authentically finished with the ends machined and grind marks along their length to simulate the marks found on full sized logs which have been processed. Various diameter logs are supplied to give a more realistic appearance when loaded although there are not quite enough to fill both the truck and trailer to capacity. Maybe more logs will be release as accessories in the future.

While not needed, the model is supplied with flexible rubber strips which can be used to secure the load although these are hard to fit and don't look particularly good.

The two axle towed trailer has a diamond plate panel running along the centre with safety rails along both sides and a 360 degree rotating frame at the front with a pivoting drawbar allowing connection to the plastic pintle hitch on the truck.

The double tyres have an authentic tread pattern and are fitted to silver wheel hubs with red centres that look very good with plastic guards fitted above each wheel.

The four green arms holding the stakes are made of plastic with red painted metal stakes keeping the logs in place

This is another great model release from Conrad following on from the long timber transporter model released previously and captures the realism and functionality of the full sized vehicle very well. The paint finish is excellent with crisp markings and printwork on the cab and is supplied in a stiff cardboard box with foam interior to keep the model well protected during transport.
